We all have water stories.  I like to call them our current.

My current starts at age five. I don't remember a summer not being in the water.  That current has carried over to adulthood, as I am  always trying to find a way to enter a body of water. It's where I feel most like myself, where I belong, and where I can disappear underneath the surface.

The Current Between Us began as a dream to photograph people in and around water, but it quickly became something much deeper. I started thinking about how water lives in all of us  in our memories, our bodies, our families, our communities, our fears, our rituals, our joy.

Through documentary photography, underwater imagery, and audio storytelling, this project asks people to share their own relationship with water. Not just where they swim, surf, float, gather, or return , but what water has held for them.

Water may hold our memories, our identities, our courage, our community, and a story that inspires others. 

​

The Current Between Us is growing into a larger body of work: a photography exhibition, an audio storytelling experience, and a companion book that brings together portraits, water imagery, and first-person reflections. The exhibition will invite viewers to move through many kinds of water stories : stories of joy, fear, healing, identity, community, transformation, and wonder. 

​

The audio component will allow participants’ voices to become part of the experience. Viewers will not only see the images; they will be invited to listen. To hear people describe what water has meant in their lives. To pause with their memories. To recognize pieces of their own story inside someone else’s.

​

The exhibition will take place at Perkins Art Center, Collingswood, NJ May/June 2027.  Details will be posted on this site.
